Back in the good old days (i.e. before 1992), the London Evening Standard and Evening News used to publish a special edition for the FA Cup final. This one is for the 1979 final between Arsenal and Manchester United.

I don’t know about you but I used to love these cup final specials, you knew that the big day was close and they summed up just about everything you needed, and didn’t need, to know about the finalists. I don’t think today’s newspapers are capable of producing anything like it.

For those of you of a certain age click on the image below and take yourself back 35 years. For the younger readers, try to imagine no twitter, no newsnow, no facebook, no mobile phones and about two hours of football on the TV per week. That was pure bliss.

If you click on “Click to read” button, the newspaper will open up in full screen mode. To zoom in and make it readable, click anywhere on the newspaper, move the mouse around to move the page around and click on the X to come back out of full screen. If you’ve got an android phone or tablet you might want to consider downloading the Issuu app which is really good at displaying the content.

This is more of an experiment. We’re looking at ways to bring you more publications from Arsenal’s past on the website. We’d appreciate feedback from you as to whether or not you think it is readable and if you’d like to see more of this sort of thing.
